In the Book of Acts 16:16-26, we have the story of Paul’s encounter with a fortune teller and the events that followed.
After being beaten and thrown into prison; at midnight, Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises unto God. And, the prisoners heard them. During this dark hour of ministry, they did not blame God for their condition, but praised Him. For teaching Jesus and casting out a demon; Paul and Silas were beaten, humiliated, and imprisoned; yet they did not complain.
When God sees real faith, He shows up. He showed up for the 3 Hebrew boys in the fiery furnace; He showed up for Daniel in the loins’ den; He showed up for David in the battle with Goliath; He showed up for Elijah at Mount Carmel. Any time God sees faith, He rewards it with His Presence.
God doesn’t promise a life free of trouble to them that follow Him, but tells us to deny ourselves and pick up our cross daily (Luke 9:23). Following Christ will cost you your life, but the exchange is abundant life. It is through much tribulation that we enter in the kingdom of God.
This imprisonment was not about Paul and Silas, but about those in prison who needed a Saviour. When the lost and bound see Christ in us, a change takes place; the world gets a glimpse of Jesus. An encounter with God can set anyone free.
Your trials and tribulations are not about you, but about those who needs an encounter with God.
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound. Isaiah 61:1
