It is written, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." (Matthew 5:16) Our "good works" are to glorify God only, and not ourselves. God shares His glory with no one. (See Isaiah 42:8)
Jesus said, "Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid." Matthew 5:14
Christians have been called to make a difference in the world. The life of a Christian is to direct the lost and hurting to Jesus Christ. Like a lighthouse on the shore of a turbulence sea; the lighthouse is not the lost ships' refuge, but the ship's direction to shore. We are not a refuge for the lost and hurting, but a lighthouse that directs the lost and hurting to safety: Jesus.
Let us not be imitators of men, but imitators of Christ Jesus. The Apostle Paul said, "Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ." (1 Corinthians 11:1) Let your light so shine that people everywhere will see the love, kindness, goodness, gentleness, peace, faithfulness, and long-suffering of Jesus in all that you do and say. Let it be said when they come away, "I've had an encounter with Jesus."
